DBK EXPT is the core duo of guitarist Benjamin Whitehill (UK/DE) and daxophonist Kriton Beyer (GR/DE). Centered on the exploration of acoustic feedback, the project combines Whitehill’s expressive guitar feedback and electro-acoustic textures with the unusual sounds of Beyer’s daxophone and effects setup. Rooted in a strong DIY aesthetic and extended instrumental techniques, the duo creates spontaneous, intuitive performances that balance sonic experimentation with careful listening and organic musical interaction.

Benjamin Whitehill is a British guitarist, improviser, and sound artist based in Berlin. Working at the intersection of free improvisation, noise, and experimental music, he has developed a distinctive approach centered on acoustic feedback, extended guitar techniques, and the textural possibilities of amplified acoustic instruments. Since relocating to Berlin in 2011, he has been an active presence in the city’s experimental music scene, performing both solo and in a variety of collaborative projects. Alongside numerous releases under his own name and with groups such as Scree Fucking Junk and FDBK EXPT, Whitehill’s work combines elements of folk tradition, drone, minimalism, and DIY aesthetics into a highly personal sonic language.

Kriton Beyer is a Greek-German musician, composer, and improviser based in Berlin. Working primarily with the daxophone and harmonium, he has developed a distinctive musical language that combines extended instrumental techniques, subtle electronics, and a strong focus on timbre and texture. After studying musicology in Greece, he moved to Berlin in 2004 and became an active figure in the city’s improvised and experimental music scene. Beyer has collaborated internationally with artists including Phil Minton, Axel Dörner, Audrey Chen, Steve Noble, and Kresten Osgood. He is the founder of Fragmentation Orchestra and curator of the experimental music label and concert series The Procrustean Bed.

Axel Dörner is a Berlin-based trumpeter, composer, and one of the most influential figures in contemporary free improvisation. Born in Cologne in 1964, he has been active in the international experimental music scene since the early 1990s. Renowned for his radically extended trumpet techniques, Dörner has developed a highly distinctive sound world that ranges from microscopic breath sounds to dense electronic textures. He has collaborated with leading improvisers worldwide and is a longstanding member of ensembles such as Die Enttäuschung and Monk’s Casino. Recipient of the SWR Jazz Prize and the Berlin Jazz Prize, Dörner continues to shape the language of modern improvised music.

Ariel Shibolet is an Israeli saxophonist, composer, educator, and one of the leading figures of the free improvisation scene in Israel and beyond. Originally trained as a cellist, he turned to the saxophone in 1992 and has since performed extensively throughout Europe, the USA, and the Middle East.
A member of the Kadima Collective and the Tel-Aviv Art Ensemble, Shibolet has appeared at renowned festivals including the Total Music Meeting in Berlin and the Moers Festival. He has collaborated with numerous international improvisers, released over a dozen recordings, curated the long-running Tel Aviv Meetings series, and developed innovative educational projects and publications dedicated to musical improvisation.
