In Spring 2023, as part of CTM Vorspiel, SoundsAbout presents installations and performances revolving around the inquiry of machine and/or human at the project space Zwitschermaschine.
This series encompasses the plural meaning of the word “GENERATIONS”– whether it be with a computer or through lineage and human relationships.
Im Frühjahr 2023 präsentiert SoundsAbout im Rahmen von CTM Vorspiel im Projektraum Zwitschermaschine Installationen und Performances, die sich um die Frage von Maschine und/oder Mensch drehen.
Diese Reihe umfasst die plurale Bedeutung des Wortes „GENERATIONS“ – sei es mit einem Computer oder durch Abstammung und menschliche Beziehungen.

The Large Beings

Across the world from one another, two enormous beings with very different relationships to humans are brought together, through certain ecological similarities, from opposite ends of the Earth. Their stories were made known through the use of an ancient oral tradition, myths, commonly utilised to explain sonic and natural phenomena.
The findings of research on the mythology of Limgrim and Kusu Island, two giant non-humans who have had a profound impact on local humans differently, are presented here. Their deaths were dis/honoured in contrasting ways and were bound by common waterways.
Obwohl diesseits und jenseits der Erde gelegen, werden zwei riesige Wesen mit sehr unterschiedlichen Beziehungen zu den Menschen durch bestimmte ökologische Ähnlichkeiten zusammengebracht, die von entgegengesetzten Enden der Erde stammen. Ihre Geschichten wurden durch eine uralte mündliche Tradition bekannt gemacht, durch Mythen, die üblicherweise zur Erklärung von Schall- und Naturphänomenen verwendet werden.
Hier werden die Ergebnisse der Forschung über die Mythologie von Limgrim und Kusu Island vorgestellt, zwei riesige Nichtmenschen, die auf unterschiedliche Weise einen tiefgreifenden Einfluss auf die Menschen vor Ort hatten. Ihr Tod wurde auf gegensätzliche Weise missachtet/geehrt und war durch gemeinsame Wasserwege verbunden.
About the Artist:
Germaine Png is a performance/ sound artist, contemporary percussionist, and composer currently pursuing a Masters in Sound Studies and Sonic Art at Universität der Künste, Berlin. As a self-described artistically confused individual, she currently (2022/23) explores myths and speculative fiction as a form of research.
Über die Künstlerin:
Germaine Png ist eine Performance- und Klangkünstlerin, zeitgenössische Perkussionistin und Komponistin, die derzeit einen Master in Sound Studies und Sonic Art an der Universität der Künste in Berlin absolviert. Als selbstbeschriebenes künstlerisch verwirrtes Individuum erforscht sie derzeit (2022/23) Mythen und spekulative Fiktion als eine Form der Forschung.
* SoundsAbout is a collaboration between the Master’s program Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at the University Berlin and the gallery Zwitschermaschine, offering a project space to present and discuss, question and celebrate the work and ideas of our students and their guests for three months every year.
